Gum Disease Treatment Frisco

Fight Back Against Poor Gum Health

At Highland Oak Dental, Dr. Gadhiya’s attention to detail extends beyond the surfaces of teeth. The gums are pivotal in providing support and protection to a patient’s pearly whites, which is why gum disease treatment is an integral part of our dental office in Frisco. Affecting half of all adults in the U.S., this bacterial infection can result in tooth and bone loss over time; however, with scaling and root planing, and antibiotic treatment, we can fight back and restore a patient’s gum health. If you notice bleeding and swelling around your gums, call our office today.

Symptoms of Gum Disease

If your gums are swollen, red, or tender, or if your gums bleed easily, you may have periodontal disease. Other common symptoms of gum disease include loose teeth, painful chewing, persistent bad breath, and receding gums that make your teeth appear longer than normal. Following an exam at our office, our dental experts and team will determine whether you suffer from periodontal disease.

Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is also referred to as deep cleaning and is recommended when Dr. Gadhiya finds symptoms of gum disease. The process requires two parts but can usually be completed in a single appointment (depending on the severity). We’ll start with scaling, which is the removal of plaque from the teeth and gumline, before moving on to root planing, which involves smoothing and reshaping the tooth root to encourage reattachment and prevent further infection.

Antibiotic Treatment

Often, in combination with scaling and root planing, we’ll use doxycycline home modulation therapy. This form of antibiotic treatment targets chronic inflammation and reduces periodontal pockets so they can heal properly and further reduce bone loss. The medication slows the progression of bacteria and infection and can help restore gum health when more frequent periodontal cleanings are performed in-house.
